Rotterdam police have recovered a cache of illegal weapons including a crossbow and an air rifle from the home of an 85-year-old man.

Officers searched the man’s home in Spijkenisse on Friday after receiving a tip-off about firearms. They found an electrified cupboard which contained the weapons along with arrows and boxes of shells, bullet heads and gunpowder.

The elderly man was arrested. Police said he was in a confused state and psychiatric support was being arranged.
