Two people were shot dead and three injured in Amsterdam at the weekend in two separate incidents.
On Saturday afternoon, a 44-year-old man was shot dead outside a café on the Admiraal de Ruyterweg. Two other men were injured in the shooting which, police say, may have followed an argument with another group of men.
None of the men were ‘known to the police’ – a euphemism for having a criminal record.
Several hours later, Djordy Latumahina, a popular figure on the city’s night life scene, was shot dead in a car park in the city’s Nieuw West district in what police say may have been a case of mistaken identity.
His wife was seriously injured but the couple’s two-year-old daughter, who was in the car, was not hurt. Police later found a burned-out vehicle which they say may have been the getaway vehicle.
Latumahina’s death prompted city club Jimmy Woo to close its doors on Sunday. ‘Tonight we are not in the mood to party,’ the club said on its Facebook page.
