Amsterdam council has backed plans to restore the city’s reputation as an international gay capital, news agency ANP reports.
The city’s reputation has taken a knock in recent years after a number of high profile attacks on gays.
The council’s plan includes extra security cameras in popular gay nightlife areas, local-level activities to get gay and straight residents to mix and a campaign to get victims of gay-bashing to report incidents to the police.
In July the Dutch tourist board launched a new advertising campaign in North America with the tag line ‘everyone’s gay in Amsterdam’.
