More than 30 million people visited a museum in the Netherlands in 2025, a 2.5% increase over the year prior, according to trade association Museumvereniging.

Dutch museums welcomed 31.6 million visitors in 2025, almost back to pre-pandemic levels. In 2019, museums saw 32.6 million guests.

Nearly 90% of Dutch people go to a museum at least once a year, the Museumcijfers 2025 report found.

In 2025 the Netherlands had 492 registered museums. Most institutions are history museums, making up 62%, followed by art museums, which account for 24%.

The use of the yearly Museum Card hit a record high of 9.7 million visits in 2025. Visits using the subscription service is up 5% over the 2019 peak.

A recent survey by Ipsos I&O found that trust in museums is high and most adults consider them to be an important part of society.
