Unpublished princess Diana memorial books stolen in NL

Copies of an unpublished book about Diana, princess of Wales, written by her brother Earl Spencer, have been stolen from a truck in the Netherlands.

Four copies of the book, which was en route from a printing plant to a warehouse, were taken while the truck driver was sleeping in his cab in a car park, according to the BBC. Dutch publisher Overamstel has the rights to the book in the Netherlands.

The book, titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister is highly anticipated as it is said to contain details about her personal life and unhappy marriage to then prince Charles, now the king. It also describes the crisis in the royal family that followed her death.

A source told British paper the Daily Mail that the theft was highly suspicious. “Nothing like this has ever happened before. This is probably the biggest book of the year and the security surrounding it has been incredibly tight.”

“Every possible precaution has been taken to prevent it from being leaked ahead of its serialisation. Therefore this unprecedented incident is being taken extremely seriously.”

The Dutch police are reportedly investigating the theft.
