Police have identified shooters in deadly Overasselt attack

Police have determined which two men were directly involved in the killing of a security guard during the deadly attack in Overasselt earlier this month, according to De Telegraaf.

Police arrested 35 people after a group of armed men descended on the village in Gelderland in the early hours of September 1 and opened fire on a farmhouse, killing the 51-year-old guard and seriously injuring two police officers.

CCTV footage showed dozens of masked men getting out of a truck outside the property, some heavily armed, before one shoots a man sitting in a car.

They also opened fire on police responding to the scene, injuring two.

It is suspected the attack was part of a feud over cocaine dealing linked with the man living in the farmhouse, Jan G., who had been targeted previously.

At the weekend, German police detained a 28-year-old man in a car park near the Dutch border on suspicion of trying to smuggle nearly four tonnes of cocaine through the French port of Dunkirk.

According to the NOS, that man was Jan G., who had been banned from the Overasselt for three months following the violence.

The men arrested in the wake of the shooting were of varying nationalities, including Dutch, French, Algerian and Belgian. Six were from the Amsterdam area. Some were caught while hiding in fields or trying to flee the area by car or train.

Judges have ordered all but one of the suspects to be detained in custody for the next three months while investigations continue.
