A major explosion occurred early Monday morning at a barbecue restaurant in Utrecht, according to local broadcaster RTV Utrecht.

The blast went off at 1am at the Topkapi restaurant, shattering windows and destroying the front of the building.

No one was injured but nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution.

The restaurant was the target of another bombing in 2023. A 19-year-old from Utrecht was later convicted of the crime. According to the court, he had attempted to extort money from the restaurant’s owner.

The police would not comment on a motivation and are investigating.
