Fourth teenager arrested in anti-terrorism investigation

A fourth teenager has been arrested by police investigating a suspected terror plot, the Dutch prosecution service has said.

The 18-year-old was arrested at his home in Kesteren, Gelderland, on Friday evening by a police special intervention team (DSI) acting on information from the intelligence agency AIVD.

A magistrate in Rotterdam ordered him to be detained in custody for the next 14 days. His contact is restricted with his lawyer.

No weapons were found at his home and prosecutors said there were no signs an attack was imminent.

“At this point in the investigation we have not identified a clear target or moment for an attack,” the prosecution service (Openbare Ministerie) said in a statement.

Last week three youths aged 16, 17 and 19 were arrested in overnight raids at homes in Rotterdam, Alkmaar and Eindhoven.

The eldest suspect, named as Mohammed K., was convicted two years ago of planning attacks on nightclubs and police stations in Belgium, none of which took place.

The other two were among a group of 14 people aged between 14 and 30 who were arrested last April on suspicion of inciting terrorism via the social media platform TikTok.
