The Dutch food standards agency NVWA has seized 277,000 illegal vapes in a record haul at a warehouse in Rotterdam.

Inspectors also found boxes containing 150,000 nicotine pouches earlier this week at storage facilities in Rotterdam and Utrecht.

The flavoured vapes, which were found by customs officers during a routine inspection of a haulage firm’s premises, are believed to have been earmarked for sale on the Dutch black market.

The items were destroyed and the costs charged to the owners of the premises, the NVWA said.

Vapes containing sweeteners have been banned in the Netherlands since 2024. The government wants to crack down on the illegal trade to stop youngsters taking up vaping, as part of its plans to achieve a smoke-free generation by 2024.
