Public prosecutors want to seize €8 million from Dutch former international footballer Quincy Promes, money they say he earned smuggling cocaine, broadcaster NOS has reported.

An Amsterdam court established the figure as part of a confiscation procedure for the proceeds of crime, against Promes and his cousin Marylio V. Prosecutors are seeking €62,000 from V. Neither man was at the hearing.

The €8 million is based on Promes’ own earlier statements, prosecutors said. He had claimed he could make €29,000 to €33,000 for each block of cocaine and had handled around 650 blocks in total.

The prosecution used the lower figure, deducted costs, and arrived at just over €8 million.

Promes (34) was sentenced to six years in jail in early 2024 for his role in smuggling more than 1,350 kilos of cocaine into the Netherlands via Antwerp, plus 18 months for stabbing his nephew at a family party in 2020. He is appealing both convictions, which have been merged into a single case due to be heard later this year.

He was extradited to the Netherlands from Dubai last year, having played for Spartak Moscow and then in the United Arab Emirates. His cousin V., who is also in custody, was sentenced on appeal to three years and eight months.
