The public prosecution office has demanded a prison sentence of four years, one suspended, for a court employee accused of selling confidential information to criminals and of extortion.

Sana C (35) worked at the information desk at Amsterdam district court, where she had access to several systems containing the personal information of individuals. She is also accused of extorting money from a man over a period of two years to an amount of almost €100,000.

Police came across the woman in 2024 during another investigation in which a court envelope was found containing the personal information of six people. That led to C, who had dozens of printouts of private data in her possession.

The man she sold the information to is suspected of causing explosions and arson in The Hague and a shooting at a house in Waalwijk, based on the information C supplied. He is thought to be in hiding in Morocco.

The woman, who was paid up to €700 a time, said she needed the money to finance her gambling addiction. The man she extorted almost €100,000 from by making threats to him and his family has demanded his money back.

The public prosecutor said C had “undermined trust in the justice system” by selling confidential information and that “integrity is a fundamental requirement for anyone employed by the court”.

The prosecution office also demanded C be barred from working in a position of trust for the next seven years. Sentencing will take place on May 27.

Another trial is also ongoing against a 47-year-old Amsterdam council worker for allegedly selling addresses and car registration numbers to criminals, leading to dozens of explosions, in the biggest case of its kind.
