Threat of Russian “hybrid activity” in EU is increasing: report

The threat of Russian so-called “hybrid activities” targeting European countries is increasing, Dutch security services AIVD and MIVD have said in a report out on Thursday.
The report is based on incidents of cyber attacks, disinformation campaigns and sabotage that took place in European countries, including the Netherlands.
Russia is thought to be behind such activities as blocking flight paths with drones, sabotaging deep-sea cables and sending incendiary devices on planes.
In the Netherlands, Russia is thought to be behind cyber attacks and active preparations to sabotage vital infrastructure.
According to the report, the attacks are becoming more violent and brazen, showing a greater willingness to take risks.
The attacks aim to undermine the political balance in Europe and frustrate efforts to help Ukraine. The services are expecting more hybrid attacks on European countries, calling on the government, companies, and knowledge institutions to be on the alert.
