At least 150 KLM flights to and from Schiphol airport have been cancelled on Sunday following weather forecasts which say snow is likely later in the day.

An airline spokesman confirmed the cancellations to news agency ANP after forecasters said the airport will be hit by snow in the afternoon.

As yet it is unclear whether other airlines have cancelled flights as a precautionary measure. The snow is set to melt in the evening as the temperature rises.

The airline said it is cancelling the flights as a precaution to ensure people do not come to the airport unnecessarily.

Last month, snow caused chaos at the airport and thousands of flights were scrapped over a period of several days.
