Crime tip-off hotline Meld Misdaad Anoniem received a record 32,007 tips last year, which were forwarded to the police, local councils and other investigators, the independent foundation said on Thursday.

That represents a rise of 32% on 2024, which the agency attributes to a concerted media campaign.

Almost half the reports related to the drugs trade, ranging from street dealing to cannabis plantations and synthetic drugs labs, the hotline said.

It also received almost 3,500 reports about violent incidents and recorded a significant increase in calls about the sale of illegal cigarettes and vapes.

The hotline said its services had enabled 1,140 weapons to be seized and helped solve 3,452 crimes.
