Road closures in north, more snow and a very cold weekend ahead

A number of roads were closed in Groningen province on Friday afternoon because of heavy snow and drifting.
The KNMI weather bureau has a code amber warning in place for the far north, as snow showers and strong winds move in and across the country.
Although motorways remain open, a number of N roads have been shut, including the N33 near Eemshaven, which has been closed in both directions because of drifts.

The snow, which began in the northern provinces in the afternoon, is slowly moving south, and large volumes are expected in the east of the country in particular.
The KNMI also expects more snow overnight, with at least four centimetres in Limburg.
On Saturday, more snow is likely in the central and southern provinces, but the sun will break through in many places as the day progresses. Temperatures will range from around freezing in coastal areas to -4° inland.
Saturday evening will be dry, with moderate to heavy frost in places, and the wind will drop overnight.
Sunday will be sunny and cold, with mist in the north east where it could feel as chilly as -20°, the KNMI said.
Trains and planes
Airline KLM said on Friday afternoon that it had no cancellations planned for Saturday, following days of chaos at Schiphol airport affecting some 300,000 passengers.
However, train services will still be reduced in many places, ProRail said.
