Dutch set to lose Champions League place after disaster night

Feyenoord, Go Ahead Eagles and FC Utrecht are all out of the Europa League following losses and a draw on Thursday night.
The poor results for Dutch clubs in Europe this year, with Ajax and PSV eliminated from the Champions League on Wednesday, mean the Netherlands has almost certainly lost its sixth place on the Uefa coefficient list to Portugal.
That means one, not two, direct Champions League places from 2027.
Feyenoord lost 2–1 to Real Betis in a match that saw Robin van Persie’s son Shaqueel carted off the pitch with a knee injury after coming on as a substitute. Utrecht lost 4–2 away to Celtic, leaving them with just one point in the competition.
Go Ahead Eagles managed a 0–0 draw against Sporting Braga and closed off their first European adventure “with a sense of pride”, finishing one point above Feyenoord and six above Utrecht.
AZ Alkmaar is the only club left in Europe and will play for a place in the Conference League knockout rounds in February.
