Streamline your finances by doing everything under one roof

December 19, 2025

Looking to simplify your life in 2026? Tired of trying to understand your finances in Dutch? Start by getting to grips with the basics and streamlining your administration.

Logins, passwords, digital ID checks – there are so many things to deal with just to get your finances in order. You may be using different companies to insure your home, provide your mortgage and … but you can do it differently.

Many financial services groups offer a range of products to their clients, so you can deal with much of the necessities of life under one roof. Take ABN AMRO, for example. It can set up a bank account for you before you even move to the Netherlands and have that all-important BSN social security number.

Open a current account now and ABN AMRO will even gift you up to €125 to start your new life in the Netherlands.

Start banking immediately

In fact, if you come from the EU or EER, from January you will no longer have to prove you are a resident in the Netherlands to start banking – a process which can take several weeks. Instead you’ll be able to use your account immediately.

But ABN AMRO can also provide you with a credit card, no fewer than six types of insurance, as well as a mortgage, a loan to do up your kitchen, advice on teaching your children about money and help with your investments.

So many types of insurance? As the website points out, the Netherlands is the most insured country in Europe. Some insurances are mandatory – such as car insurance if you have a vehicle – while most Dutch people also take out personal liability insurance. You can even insure yourself via ABN AMRO for legal aid.

Welcome programme

The bank also runs a warm welcome programme especially for expats and offers online seminars on key issues like buying a house. The website is loaded with tips for new arrivals on anything from buying a home to raising a child in the Netherlands.

Children in the Netherlands are allowed to do a limited amount of paid work from the age of 13, and to work legally from the age of 15, but they often have a bank account and a debit card before that. And if you are wondering: yes, you can open a bank account with ABN AMRO for your children as well!

ABN AMRO has been a trusted financial partner to the international community for 25 years, says expat advisor Diana. “You can talk to an advisor from anywhere in the world at a time that suits you.”

ABN AMRO’s expat advisers are fluent in English and can explain the ins and outs of all the bank’s many services to you. An appointment is free of charge, with no strings attached, making it easy to find out more. And of course, with internet banking, you can transfer money from wherever you are in the world – which will also make life a little easier.
