Much of the Netherlands is likely to see snow in the first weekend of 2026, with wintry conditions forecast for large parts of the country.

New Year’s Eve is expected to remain dry but windy, while New Year’s Day will be bleak, with rain and possibly some wet snow that is unlikely to settle, according to weather bureau Weeronline.

More pronounced winter weather is forecast from Saturday. Heavy showers are expected, bringing snow and possibly hail. Inland areas are most likely to see snow settling, as temperatures there will be lower than along the coast.

Overnight frost is forecast across most of the country on Saturday evening, with the exception of coastal regions. On Sunday, daytime temperatures are expected to range between 0 and 3°.

“The greatest chance of snow is at night and in the morning,” weather forecaster Johnny Willemsen from Weeronline said. “If snowfall is persistent, it could also remain on the ground during the day on Sunday.”

“Almost everyone in the Netherlands will see snow,” Willemsen said. “The question is how long it will last. Near the sea, the chance of it settling is much smaller.”

Looking ahead, next week will be drier and sunnier and temperatures will continue to hover around freezing. The KNMI long range forecast does not include any firm predictions heading towards mid month.
