Wassenaar murder victim is finally identified after 21 years

A still from the video campaign

A woman found dead in the dunes behind Wassenaar some 21 years ago has been identified as missing German woman Eva Maria Pommer, who was 35 at the time of her death.

The case is one of those highlighted in the Identify Me campaign which was launched by Interpol in 2023, and the first of the victims in the Netherlands to be named. Four victims have so far been identified.

Her body was found in July 2004, and police said at the time they suspected she was German, with clues leading to Bottrop, close to the border. She was known in the Interpol campaign as the “woman with the keys” because of the keys she had with her.

She was identified following a tip-off from a German foundation that investigates cold cases, Interpol said.

Identify Me was set up in 2023 to identify women found in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, and has since been extended to include France, Italy and Spain. The database includes facial reconstructions and other available data on 46 women, most of whom were murdered.
