Changeable, windy week ahead, with lots of rain on Thursday

After a calm and sunny weekend, the Netherlands faces a much more unsettled week ahead, with showers sweeping in from the southwest and increasingly blustery conditions.

Monday will be a mixture of sunshine and rain, and the cloud will thicken in the evening, bringing more showers. From Tuesday, the wind will shift to the southwest, bringing frequent showers across the country.

It will remain mild for mid-October at 17° to 18°, compared with an average of around 14° in a normal year.

Showers will continue to come and go through the rest of the week, and Thursday is set to be particularly wet, with widespread rain and gusty winds. Daytime temperatures will stay above average at 15° to 16°, before gradually cooling again towards the weekend.

By Friday the wind will shift to the northwest and ease slightly, though the weekend will still bring some showers and a stiff breeze, with occasional sunny intervals in between.

The KNMI long-range forecast predicts more of the same towards the end of the month, with temperatures above the seasonal average.
