KLM scraps more flights ahead of Wednesday’s ground staff strike

KLM has again cancelled dozens of flights ahead of next Wednesday’s strike action by ground crew and other services.
Ground staff will be downing tools between 8am and 12pm to force the flagship carrier to come up with an acceptable wage package, Unions FNV and CNV said.
KLM entered into a collective wage agreement with three smaller unions, which prompted the first two-hour strike last week, causing hundreds of flights to be cancelled.
The FNV said the wage increase does not go far enough, and no provision has been made for people doing physically heavy work, such as baggage handlers. The unions are also campaigning for more permanent contracts.
“Ground crew feel they are second-rate employees,” an FNV spokesman said.
