Thieves steal large stuffed tiger from Nijmegen taxidermy shop

A well-organised group of thieves have stolen a stuffed tiger worth €35,000 from a shop specialising in taxidermy.

Erwin van Zoelen, owner of the Museum Shop in Nijmegen, said several people broke the window to the store on the night of August 4 and loaded the life-sized animal into a cart attached to a bicycle.

The shop sells a variety of mounted animals, skeletons and minerals, and has won awards in the Netherlands for its work.

“We’ve been running the shop with passion for 15 years, and we’ve never experienced anything like this before,” Van Zoelen told RTL Nieuws.

The stuffed tiger is microchipped and the thieves don’t have the official paperwork, making it impossible to sell it legally.

Van Zoelen is offering a €1,000 reward for the safe return of the tiger.
