Second heatwave of the year officially confirmed

The Netherlands’ second official heatwave of 2025 has been declared after the temperature in De Bilt reached 25 degrees on Friday morning.

It’s rare for the Netherlands to experience two heatwaves – a period of at least five days of 25 degrees, with at least three peaks of 30 degrees or higher. According to the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, this has only previously happened in the summers of 1941, 2006, 2018, and 2019.

The code yellow alert will remain in effect for the country but cooler temperatures are arriving from the weekend onwards.

Friday will remain dry but the clouds will roll in in the evening and strong winds are expected on the coast. Over the weekend, there will be more cloud cover and temperatures will drop considerably.

After the weekend, sunny summer weather will return for several days.
