Syrian man, 34, sought after body identified as missing woman

A woman whose body was found on a woodland path in Almere is the 24-year-old Syrian who went missing a week earlier, police have confirmed.

Police believe she was the victim of a crime and have appealed for sightings of a 34-year-old man, also from Syria, who was the last person known to have seen her alive.

They would not confirm reports in the Telegraaf that the man, named as Omar A., was her husband, but said they urgently needed to trace him.

She was last seen getting into his car, a grey Peugeot 307 with the registration number 36-LH-RN, outside the Albert Heijn supermarket in Olivier van Noortstraat, in Almere’s Poort district, last Thursday, August 7.

Her body was found by a passer-by on the Homeruspad, just north of the Almere Poort neighbourhood. Police say they have “strong suspicions” that her death was the result of a criminal act.
