Far right leader Wilders publishes list of 80 prospective MPs

Far-right leader Geert Wilders has published a list of 80 potential PVV MPs for the October 29 general election, just one day after revealing three new faces at the top.
Wilders, who is the PVV’s only official member and personally draws up the candidates, has placed Gidi Markuszower in fifth place, parliamentary chairman Martin Bosma in sixth and former asylum minister Marjolein Faber in ninth. Former junior minister Vicky Maeijer completes the top 10.
On Thursday, former health minister Fleur Agema, who has represented the anti-Islam party in parliament for 22 years, said she would not stand again, without giving details. Her partner Leon de Jong is also missing from the list.
Vincent van den Born, elected for the PVV last year but who has not contributed to debates or asked parliamentary questions, has also been dropped.
At the November 2023 general election the PVV fielded just 45 candidates, winning 37 seats. That left the party struggling to fill nine ministerial posts without creating gaps in parliament.
Polls now put the PVV narrowly ahead, on between 29 and 33 seats in the 150-seat lower house. However, the chances of the party returning to government are minimal because all the other major parties have ruled out working with it again.
The PVV pulled the plug on the current coalition in a dispute over asylum.
