The KNMI weather bureau has issued a code yellow weather warning for all of the Netherlands, saying thunderstorms are likely to hit nationwide from 3pm on Sunday afternoon.

These showers could be intense with strong gusts of wind and cause localised flooding, the KNMI said. Hailstones of up to two centimetres in diameter could fall in places.

Temperatures will range from 23° in the north and on the Wadden Sea islands to 26° in the south.

The storms will move away overnight and next week will bring more changeable weather, with cooler temperatures and showers on most days.

However, some sunshine is still expected between the rain, and the chance of showers will decrease towards the end of the week.
