The A13 motorway in Rotterdam was closed for several hours on Monday night after a taxi was apparently shot at from another car.

Pictures posted on social media showed the taxi with a shattered windscreen and a bullet hole in the glass following the incident between Blijdorp and Rotterdam Airport at around 1.30am.

Police would not confirm details of the incident, but local reports said the taxi came under fire while it was being pursued by a car with Belgian registration plates. The latter car was later found abandoned in The Hague.

It is not known if anyone was injured as a result of the shooting. No arrests have been made so far.

The A13 was closed for around six hours while investigations took place before reopening at around 7.30am. Motorists were diverted via the A4 and A20 motorways.
