Two people killed, two police officers injured in Hoofddorp

Two people have died and two police officers were injured in an incident in Hoofddorp early on Wednesday morning, police and the public prosecution department have confirmed.
Officers were called to a terraced house on Fanny Blankers Koenlaan in the west of the town at around 6 am following reports of a loud argument and a stabbing.
Police did draw their weapons and open fire, the public prosecution department said, but it remains unclear whether the victims were shot, when the deaths occurred, or who the victims were.
According to a statement by the national police service, investigators are looking into whether the two people killed each other, or whether a police bullet may have been involved. The national force is brought in automatically when officers use their weapons during a serious incident.
It is also unclear how the police officers came to be injured.
A neighbour told the Telegraaf there were often loud arguments in the property and it was known to be a problem house. Another neighbour said youngsters were always coming and going at all hours and there was a lot of drinking.
“Hoofddorp is going to the dogs thanks to drugs and violence,” said a third. “This is not the first incident here.”
The police have said they will make more information available as soon as possible.
