One of two men killed in Hoofddorp incident was shot by police

One of the two men who died in an incident in Hoofddorp last week was shot dead by police, the public prosecution department said on Monday.
The other victim was stabbed to death.
The two men, aged 21 and 22, were both from the town, which is close to Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport.
Police were called to Fanny Blankers Koenlaan on May 21 just after 6 am following reports of a heated argument. Officers who approached the house opened fire, and it has now been confirmed that one of the bullets killed one of the men.
Two police officers were injured, but the public prosecutor has not said how they were hurt or by what.
Mayor Marianne Schuurmans said the neighbourhood had been shocked by the violence.
The national police force is investigating exactly what happened, as it does every time officers use firearms and cause injury or death. In general, the Dutch police are involved in no more than a handful of fatal shootings a year.
