Dutch inflation rises to 4.1% in April as food prices climb

Food prices in the Netherlands rose by 7.2% in April, pushing the annual rate of inflation up from 3.7% to 4.1%, according to preliminary figures from national statistics agency CBS.
In March, food prices had increased by 7.1%. Services such as healthcare, government services and the hospitality sector were also 5.6% more expensive than a year earlier.
Prices typically rise more sharply in April, the CBS said, due to the higher cost of May holiday plane tickets. This year, there were also more public holidays in April than in 2024.
When calculated using the European harmonised system, inflation was also 4.1% in April, up from 3.4% in March. The EU system does not include rental housing costs.
