The police have arrested another two suspects in the Drents Museum gold heist case, bringing the total to seven, officials confirmed on Thursday.

One of the suspects is a 20-year-old man who appeared on a DIY shop security video released shortly after the heist. He is thought to have bought the sledgehammer, which police think was used during the break-in.

The other man is 18 years old. Both are from Heerhugowaard, as are three other suspects police picked up shortly after the heist in January. On April 15, police picked up a 36-year-old man who is also thought to be involved at his home in Alkmaar. Of the five, four are still in custody.

Police seized computers and other devices at the homes of the men, but found no trace of the gold Romanian helmet and armbands that were taken.

An earlier search of business premises in Heerhugowaard on Wednesday did not lead to the treasures either, but police are currently studying the data on devices confiscated there.

The two main suspects had millions of euros worth of goods and in bank accounts, which have now been sequestered, according to the Telegraaf.

The investigation is ongoing.
