Storm Conall to hit the northern Netherlands with 130 kph winds

The KNMI weather bureau has upped its warning about storm Conall to amber for the north of the country, saying winds of up to 130 kph are possible in northern coastal areas on Wednesday evening.

The storm is likely to blow down trees and cause damage to buildings, particularly roofs, the agency said.

The ANWB motoring organisation has also warned drivers to expect long delays and jams in the evening rush hour and dozens of flights have been cancelled.

The worst of the storm will be felt on the Noord Holland and Friesland coast, as well as the Wadden Sea islands, but strong winds of between 80 kph and 110 kph will also cause problems in Flevoland, Overijssel, Drenthe and Groningen.

The storm will move over into Germany overnight.

Airline KLM has scrapped 72 flights because of the impending bad weather, all of which were heading for European destinations.
