Cricket: Dutch county players return for UAE and Oman tour

The Dutch cricket association KNCB has been able to recall the overseas-based quartet of Colin Ackermann, Roelof van der Merwe, Timm van der Gugten and Bas de Leede following the conclusion of the English domestic season for the World Cup League 2 series against UAE and Oman next month.

The series set to run from November 1 to 11 in Muscat will be the last WCL2 commitment of the year for the Dutch with a three-match T20I series against Oman to follow.

The Dutch are currently placed third in the WCL2 table, level with Scotland on 12 points with six wins from eight games and could go past table-toppers Canada with at least three wins on the tour.

For the T20I series, Teja Nidamanuru will be added to the squad as the only change. A torn tendon in his left wrist during training saw him sidelined for the home series against the USA and Canada in August but is set to return after last featuring against South Africa at the T20 World Cup in June.

Ackermann, who is set to play his first ODI since the World Cup in India last year, is coming off the back of a successful season for Durham where he averaged north of 45 with the bat across the One Day Cup and the County Championship Division One.

33-year-old Van der Gugten, who led Glamorgan’s pace attack to their second One Day Cup in three years earlier last month, is also in line for his first ODI appearance since November 2021. He will bolster a pace attack which also features Kyle Klein, Viv Kingma, Paul van Meekeren and Bas de Leede.

It is understood that Voorburg all-rounder Ryan Klein, who played the home series this summer as a specialist batter, is not bowling at full tilt yet and could continue his role in the lower middle order.

Scott Edwards’ side will be aiming for another successful leg after going undefeated at home in August headlined by a remarkable 19-run win against the USA, who last their last five wickets for ten runs in a close finish.

The 15-man squad will depart for Muscat on October 26. All matches will be live streamed and are free to watch on ICC.tv.

Squad:

Colin Ackermann (Durham CCC), Shariz Ahmad (VRA), Noah Croes (Voorburg CC), Aryan Dutt (Hermes DVS), Scott Edwards (captain, wicketkeeper) (Kampong), Timm van der Gugten (Glamorgan CCC), Viv Kingma (Voorburg CC), Kyle Klein (HBS), Ryan Klein (Voorburg CC), Bas de Leede (Durham CCC), Michael Levitt (Voorburg CC), Paul van Meekeren (Weston-super-Mare), Roelof van der Merwe (Somerset CCC), Max O’Dowd (Kampong), Vikram Singh (VRA) and Teja Nidamanuru (T20Is only).

Netherlands vs UAE – CWCL2 (50 overs) – November 3

Oman vs Netherlands – 50 overs – November 5

UAE vs Netherlands – 50 overs – November 9

Oman vs Netherlands – 50 overs – November 11
