Amsterdam police have arrested a 20-year-old man they suspect of raping, sexually assaulting and blackmailing at least seven girls and young women.

The man, who was picked up last month, was remanded in custody for 30 days by judges in the Dutch capital on Tuesday.

The man is thought to have approached his victims in public places and made a date to meet them later. There he sexually assaulted them and forced several to hand over money.

The police are aware of seven victims but suspect there may be more who have not yet gone to the police. The attacks happened between July 2021 and April 2024.
