Transavia introduces fees for cabin baggage from April

Budget airline Transavia is introducing a charge for cabin baggage from April, following in the footsteps of Ryanair and EasyJet which have already brought in fees.

Travellers will be asked €10 per bag for cabin bags weighing up to 10 kilos in the hope more people will put their bags in the hold and so speed up boarding.

“Furthermore, the policy change is necessary because we are facing ever-increasing costs, in addition to renewing our fleet,” Transavia said. “For instance, we have to pay more and more for emission rights and maintenance costs are rising.”

From April 3, Transavia will only allow baggage measuring up to 55 x 35 x 25 cm in the cabin and has set a limit of 70 items. Small bags that fit under a seat can still be carried free of charge.

In 2020, Transavia introduced a fee for passengers who wanted to be certain that their bags would be carried in the cabin.

“Transavia has always had a flexible hand baggage regime and that is now changing,” Frank Oostdam from travel association ANVR told the AD.
