Sixty Dutch nationals have been safely flown out of Sudan, the foreign affairs ministry said on Monday morning.

The first Dutch evacuation flight to Jordon had 32 evacuees on board, of whom 15 were Dutch. Others were taken on a German evacuation flight, while a ‘handful’ left on Sunday evening in the care of the French.

Some 150 Dutch nationals and embassy staff are on the list to be brought out of Sudan. However, some people do not want to leave because of their family situation and others are not able to get to the airport because of the fighting, broadcaster NOS reported.

The US, UK, Italy and Spain have also brought out some of their nationals from Sudan.

The country has been hit by a power struggle between the regular army and a paramilitary force which has led to violence for more than a week.
