The Oost-Nederland police force has suspended six serving officers after a video of them making racist and other derogatory comments was shared on social media.

The six men, whose ranks have not been revealed, had attended the Dutch football match against France on Friday but not in an official capacity.

The video was made the following day in a mini bus driving past a market in the north of Paris. Passengers can be heard to remark that the people selling their wares are criminals and that no white faces can be seen. One passenger calls the area ‘a zoo’ while others repeat Geert Wilders’ 2014 call for ‘fewer, fewer’ Moroccans.

‘As a police force we are shocked by these images because we want to be a police force for each and everyone,’ Oost-Nederland police chief Janny Knol said in a statement. ‘The behaviour of these colleagues even in their spare time, is not appropriate and is totally unacceptable,’ she said.

The video, posted by a man known as ‘a fervent Oranje fan’ has been removed. Police has started an investigation.
