Dutch duo hope power ballad Burning Daylight will win Eurovision

This year’s Dutch entry to the Eurovision Song Contest is a power ballad called Burning Daylight which is, according to performers Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper, ‘an ode to life’s falling and getting up again’.
Burning Daylight was written by the duo together with Duncan Lawrence, who won the contest in 2019 with another power ballad, Arcade.
Eurovision fans are enthusiastic about the song on the Eurovision YouTube channel, describing it as ‘beautiful’ and ‘emotional’.
‘If the live act is good, we will make the final,’ music producer and former national Eurovision jury member Maurice Wijnen said. ‘Many people don’t realise that this year, professional juries have been scrapped in the semi finals, so to qualify for the final, you have to score big with the audience at home.’
The bookies so far have the song in 11th place, with Sweden tipped to win, even though it has not gone public with its entry yet. Loreen, who won in 2012 and had a global hit with Euphoria, is one of the entries in the domestic competition.
The contest takes place in Liverpool in two months time and the Netherlands will take part in the second of the two semi finals.
