Dutch police received 3,400 reports about sex attacks last year, a rise of 300 on 2021, the AD reported on Friday.

The cases include sexual assault, incest and rape, the paper said.

The police aim to process each case within six months but 856 of the reports were not dealt with within the allotted time last year, partly because of staff shortages, the paper said.

Experts are expecting a rise in reports next year when new legislation which widens the definition of sexual assault comes into effect.
