Fatal crash car may have been getaway vehicle in a shooting
Two of the three people killed in a collision on the A16 in Noord Brabant on Sunday night may have been involved in a shooting earlier in the evening in Roosendaal, police said on Monday afternoon.
Police have recovered a gun from the vehicle which was believed to have been heading the wrong way up the motorway when the accident happened. The driver and one passenger in that car were killed, as was the 54-year-old driver of the other vehicle.
Three people who sustained injuries in the crash were airlifted to hospital, including a 19-year-old youth from Drunen who was also in the possible getaway car.
The crash happened at around 23.15 on Sunday night not far from Breda. Some 15 minutes earlier police had reports of a shooting in Roosendaal, in which a 19-year-old youth was injured.
The car involved in that shooting was spotted shortly afterwards on the A58, driving at high speed with its lights out. Police gave chase but stopped when the car turned and drove the wrong way onto the A16, where the collision happened.
The investigation is continuing.
