2022 in pictures: February – an armed siege and a storm
Storm Eunice, which left four people dead, and the armed siege at the Apple store in Amsterdam were the big stories in February while the government’s decision to scrap most of the coronavirus rules kept Covid-19 in the public area.
However, February’s best read story by far was the news that Rotterdam was to temporarily demolish a listed bridge to allow Amazon founderJeff Bezos’ yacht to pass through on its way from the shipyard where it had been built to open water. In the event, the demolition never happened.
Dutch universities also hit the headlines by yet again calling on the government to bring in limits to the number of international students.
On the feature side, our 10 Questions interview with Ciaran Hickey, and his assertion that he is a foreigner, not an expat, struck a chord.
