Dutch are becoming more cautious about spending: NOS
The Dutch are becoming more cautious with their money because of rising inflation, but most still have no trouble making ends meet, broadcaster NOS said on Monday.
Some 55% are keeping a closer eye on their spending in July, compared with 43% in June, NOS said, based on a survey of over 1,000 people by I&O Research.
Around one in four are, however, finding it tricky to pay all their bills and 5% say already have financial problems or will shortly have them.
‘It is very clear that not only people on low incomes are being affected by inflation,’ researcher Melle Conradie said. ‘Some people on medium incomes are also being hit.’
A clear majority would like the government to do more to compensate people for rising prices. Two thirds say this could be funded by increasing corporate taxes and 49% would like to see higher income tax for big earners.
Inflation in the Netherlands is currently 8.6%.
