Damage caused by the three storms to hit the Netherlands over the past week will top €500m, Dutch insurance association Verbond van Verzekeraars said on Monday.

Storms Dudley, Eunice and Franklin all caused considerable damage to private property, as well as killing four people in the Netherlands alone. There may also be further damage in the coming days, as trees and branches weakened in the earlier storms are hit by continual strong gusts of wind.

The final bill is likely to be far higher, the association says, because emails and phone calls are still coming in. Most damage so far has been recorded in the provinces of Noord and Zuid-Holland.

Falling trees have damaged cars, buildings and other property, while the strong winds blew down fences and took off roofs in several places.
