Dutch footballer Quincy Promes will be prosecuted for attempted manslaughter and grievous bodily harm, the public prosecution department said on Thursday.

The charges follow a family party in July 2020 in which a nephew of Promes was stabbed, resulting in a serious knee injury.

Promes, who has 50 caps for Oranje, was arrested and questioned by police about the incident last December.

The 29-year-old midfielder returned to Spartak Moscow at the beginning of this year, having also played for the club for four years up to 2018. Ajax earned €8.5m from the transfer, which could rise to €11m including bonuses.
