Slight rise in positive coronavirus cases, IC patient total dips below 600
A further 4,365 new coronavirus tests were registered with the public health institute RIVM in the 24 hours to Friday morning, new figures from the agency show.
This is up 135 on Thursday’s total, and more than the average over the past seven days. Cases have now been rising slightly for three days although the overall trend is still downwards.
However, the number of people being treated in hospital for coronavirus continues to go down, dropping to 2,052 by Friday morning. Of them 573 are in an intensive care unit, a decline of 29 on Thursday, patient monitoring body LCPS said.
Meanwhile, the Rotterdam regional health board has said it will close most of its test locations on Sunday and Monday as a precaution because of the forecast wintry weather.
The test centres in the Ahoy stadium and at Rotterdam airport will remain open and special efforts will be made to keep the roads clear, the health board said in a statement.
