One in three companies which does business either directly or indirectly with Britain have not yet taken any steps to prepare for Brexit, according to research carried out on behalf of the economic affairs and foreign ministries.

Companies with indirect links to Britain are least likely to have prepared for the end of the year, when new trade rules will come into effect whether a deal is agreed or not, the research showed. In total, 572 firms took part in the survey.

Some 47% of firms with a direct trading relationship with Britain say they are relatively well prepared, a percentage that has not changed since last April.

Just over a third of the companies in the survey also had British nationals on their books.

The government has launched a new campaign featuring its Brexit muppet to encourage companies to get ready for the new trade situation from January 2021.
