Prime minister Mark Rutte and other Dutch politicians have condemned Thursday’s attack on churchgoers in France, which left three people dead.
‘Our thoughts are with the family of those who died,’ Rutte said. ‘And we say to the people of France, you are not alone in the battle against extremism. The Netherlands is with you.’
Two women and one man were killed when a man armed with a knife entered a church in Nice on the Côte d’Azur on Thursday morning. Police have opened investigation into ‘killings linked to a terrorist organisation,’ the Guardian reported.
King Willem-Alexander and queen Maxima also published a statement in Dutch and French, describing their shock at the ‘terrible act of violence’.
‘Our sympathy is with everyone who has lost a loved one and we are united with all those working for a peaceful society.’
