More women are occupying top positions in almost 60% of the companies that signed a charter to promote a greater female presence, according to figures from government agency Talent to the Top (TndT).

The 275 companies including BAM, Essent, Heineken, Schiphol, universities and hospitals signed up to the charter in 2008. Some 58% employed more women in top positions in the last year, while 36% saw their number fall. In 6% of companies the number of women remained the same.

The total of women in high places rose from 24.6% at the end of 2018 to 26.7% in 2019, ‘a stronger rise than ever,’ the organisation said. Top jobs also include the two layers below the board of directors, according to the TndT norms.

On average 31%, of management board members are female at theTndT affiliated companies, while an average of 37% have women on their board of directors. Four in ten have women on their supervisory boards.

In 2013, a legally binding quota of 30% was set for the inclusion of women on management boards and boards of directors. ‘The companies that signed up to the charter have achieved that goal, a unique achievement that does not reflect the national situation,’ chair of the Monitoring Talent Commission Caroline Princen said.
