Coastguard and emergency service workers on Tuesday have found two more bodies in their search for surfers who went missing on Monday off the coast of Scheveningen.

Four surfers are now known to have died when they got into trouble in strong winds in the early evening at the popular location for water sports. Several surfers managed to get to safety themselves but seven others had to be pulled out of the sea by rescue workers, including two of the four who died. One other person was taken to hospital.

The search for other missing surfers was hampered by the large amount of sea foam, which was blasted away by a helicopter, officials said.

The bodies of two more surfers were found on Tuesday when the hunt resumed. One person is still missing.

At the weekend, a 28-year-old man from Den Bosch was killed while out kite surfing off the Zeeland coast. Officials say he appeared to have been caught up in strong winds and was dashed against the concrete post of a beach house.
