Coronavirus and season cancellation hits Eredivisie player values
The value of players in the 18 Dutch Eredivisie league has slumped almost 24%, according to calculations by accountancy group KPMG.
KPMG looked at the impact of coronavirus on 10 European league competitions, including the Netherlands, to assess the likely impact on the value of players if the competition was cancelled or continued.
In February, the value of Eredivisie players was €1.2bn in total, KPMG said. Now the season has ended prematurely, their combined value has gone down to €923m. If the league competition had restarted at a later date, the drop in value would have been under 16%, KPMG said.
The biggest drop – 33% – is at FC Emmen, where the pool of players is now worth just €14m. Amsterdam Ajax has by far the most valuable team, now valued at €330m, compared with €422m before the crisis hit.
